The Sustainable Art Department

Production designers for Films, Commercials, TV series and more

Art made from trash.
Used straws, iced coffee lids, cardboard scraps, old Lego parts, … This set design model was mainly built from garbage.

Our Mission

We design, build and create to bring your vision to life in an environmental friendly, less wasteful way.

With most film productions comes a lot of waste. A big part of that is usually produced by the Art Department. Set pieces, used furniture, props become trash after you wrap. Shipping boxes from ordered materials and props pile up, tape, tools, materials are thrown out because it‘s cheaper to buy new things than to preserve used ones. Trucks, ships, planes pollute the environment so everyone can get their props fast and cheap.

We want to change that.

Reduce

Being a collective of three versatile artists with different focuses we have the means to cover every part of Art Department - from conceptual design through planning, storyboarding, digital modeling,… to building the tiniest props or big sets. This allows us to implement our core values of safety and sustainability on every step and rethink Art Department holistically.
Between the three of us we are experiences in everything Art Department: Feature films, commercials, music videos, shows, theater productions, events, installations, graphic art, props, creatures, interior design, architecture and urban planning.

Design & Art Direction

Repurpose

Our set and prop library allows us to collect all kinds of things that other people might consider trash - be it furniture, materials or props. We fix, mend, upcycle it and give it a second, third, or 20th life. When we build something new, we build it so it can be repurposed.
By maintaining easily modified modular set elements and ready-to-go standard sets as well as lots of standard props (and some more special ones), we created a fast and less wasteful way to provide productions with whatever they need. While almost nothing needs to be thrown away afterwards.

Set Construction & Prop Building

reimagine

We are building our own prop library of frequently used items, so we can draw many props from that instead of sourcing new ones. And even better: We are also building and maintaining a collection of customizable, mobile, modular set elements that make setting up a set much faster and reduce the needed resources to a minimum.
Whenever we have to source something new, we do our best to buy used and/or more sustainable materials.

Rental, Purchase and Sale
of Props & Set Elements

With our holistic approach, our broad experience and our rental libraries we produce less waste and waste less resources, meaning: materials, energy, gas, time, ...
– and yes, in most cases also money.
